Edward and his Toys

Edward asleep with 7 dinosaurs, 5 tigers, party-saurus Rex and Woody

I'll admit it.  Edward is a lil' bit spoiled.  I let him get a little something from the grocery store or Target $1 section almost every time I go on the condition that he doesn't cry, scream or hit (the hitting isn't so much a problem anymore).  I've only had to put back a toy once, a gorilla that he still talks about.  Lately I've been going out of my way to go to grocery stores that don't have toys (or at least don't have them in a place Edward can find) or I go on the weekends without him. That has helped a bit.

Yesterday, we walked into Target and Edward started shouting, "Toys!" and then covering his mouth and saying "oh no too loud."  He became fixated.  He loves stuffed animals and playing pretend with them and I'll admit, I love watching him. Well, yesterday he found this dragon that some other mom had obviously taken away from her rowdy kid and set down on a random shelf, nowhere near the toy aisle. So despite my best efforts to avoid the toys, Edward used his laser-eyes and spotted it, locked in and then gave me the sweet puppy dog face that melts my heart.   I couldn't say no.  He'd been so good and he seemed so enchanted with this dragon and watching him play with it, well, I caved.

I'm probably setting him up for some level of entitlement, which I also have to admit, I'm not totally against.  I want him to believe he can have it all on some level. When he understands better, I'll implement a system were he can earn his treats in a more advanced way than just being good at the grocery store (he never gets rewarded for being rotten - the problem is, he's usually really good), but for now, I'm just going to enjoy watching his little imagination run wild.

Here we are at Target:
