Edward Meets the Cat in the Hat

Edward loves cats.  He really loves the Cat in the Hat.  It's his favorite movie and TV show and he talks about him regularly, so when we heard the Cat in the Hat was going to be at Union Station we knew we had to take Edward to meet his first celebrity.

Edward kept his eyes on that cat the entire 30 minutes we stood in-line.  I could tell he wasn't so sure about him, so he watched to make sure the cat didn't attack any of the children he was meeting.  I actually felt him tense up a little when the cat hugged the kids. This kid's no dummy, he's not going to let just any cartoon dancing feline invade his personal space.  He was super nervous, but I feel like the wait in line let him work out his feelings about the whole situation so that as we got closer to our turn he got more excited.

Edward was literally trying to touch him and get as far away from him at the same time.  He did give him a little low five.  The fact that he didn't cry was huge, and he seemed pretty happy about how it went after the fact because he's still talking about it.  It's really awesome that they let the parents take the picture from 3 feet below the stage, which is quite possibly the most unflattering angle ever.  That cat was not skinnier than me, I swear.  But this is about Edward conquering his fear of strangers who wear hats and meeting one of his idols so I would say the whole thing was very much a success.

Then we went to see the trains.  For some reason I only have one picture of that, but we'll probably go back to see them again this week so I'll get some more then.  Obviously, this scene was depicting the poor part of town. I kid. I kid. (But there were other better trains and houses).

Finally, we headed to brunch at Coal Vines, where Edward poo poo'd the high chair in favor of sitting in a regular chair like a big boy.  Then he broke the hearts of all of the waitresses and ate pizza and granola and yogurt.

Huge day for the little monkey man.  The nap came very easily.

They all look like babies when they sleep.
