Edward turned 2 in the midst of total insanity for our family. Good insanity for the most part, but insanity nonetheless. We were set to move out of our house the day after his birthday so the house was completely boxed up. I still wanted to do something special to celebrate one of the best days of my life (let's be honest, babies don't love being born, eventually they're happy about it but those first few hours of life are a huge culture shock I'm sure). So I planned a morning trip to the zoo.
In all honesty, we probably could have skipped the zoo. This is how excited Edward was to go.

But we went and got some cute pictures so I'll call it a success.
Proof that we went to the zoo. Edward looks psyched.
The Grands (Grandpacky wasn't there because The Suze and I were driving back to Dallas the next day, since we were about to be homeless for two weeks)

Family pictures are hard when you're two.
Edward is usually followed by a team of paparazzi.
Go Tigers! Edward looks excited.
Edward spends more time at the zoo watching people than animals. Here, he is checking out the ladies.
The orangutan was not amused.
"Heyy look the kangaroos aren't caged!"
Edward, of course, took that as his cue to go after them.
Don't judge the paci. I was not about to take it away on his birthday.
hehe
Edward loved feeding the deer. It was pretty adorable.
Oops, he was not ready to get off.
Love the elephants!

Pooped.
Later, we had family over to open presents and eat cupcakes. Since the whole house was almost packed, I didn't do any fun decorations. That was so hard for me. Edward loves so many things that I had my pick of themes: Cars, Dinosaurs, Cat in the Hat, King Fu Panda, Trains. I'll get him next year. Three is going to be a big party ;)
He loves to open presents or as he says "pressawnts" (I love The Suze sitting on the rocking horse)
We had to sing it again because everyone started singing before I could get the video camera rolling. For any mother who has given a birthday party, you know that that's basically grounds for murder.

At the end of the day, the only thing that mattered was having the family around. That's when Edward is happiest. He loves his family so much and I know he feels the weight of their love for him when they are all together. He'll forget the toys and the zoo animals and most likely even this house, but he won't ever forget the people who love him most.
Happy 2nd Birthday Edward!
May you always be sweet and silly, adventurous and a mama's boy ;)
I love you more than you can ever imagine. I'm so proud to be your mama.
