Edward's Last Day of School

He couldn't wait to go to school this morning. Much like every morning!

Hard to believe that's the same little boy who looked at me with big saucer blue eyes as I said goodbye to him the first day.

As hard as it is to see my baby grow up, I cannot be sad at the leaps and bounds he's made in his confidence and independence. As his mom, it's hard to give him the space he needs to grow, so school kind of forces it. It's been such a great and positive experience for both of us.

I mean, truly amazing.

I had a little surprise for him when he got home. My friend Amanda at Dixie Delights blog does a Walk of Fame for her boys where she hilights all of their accomplishments that year and welcomes them to summer with a fun little treat table. So I totally copied her with her blessing. I mean, what a great way to celebrate and recognize what a big year it's been!

So here's my version.

I kept it simple because I had about an hour to do this and it's our first one. At the end of his little walk, he was greeted with a table full of all his pool toys that I pulled out of storage as well as a few extras I grabbed at Target. Nothing fancy.

Of course, when we got home and I told him I had a little surprise and he needed to walk around back, he was so excited.

We read the signs together. He was most excited about the big boy underpants sign (huge accomplishment)! But then he said, "this is not the surprise." He was asking, but he speaks in affirmative statements, I think to make it become a fact.

We always joke about his reality distortion field. Statements like "yes you can draw Iceman for me!" really make you want to try, if for no other reason than to get him to stop asking.  It worked for Steve Jobs. Yes, I just drew that comparison. Edward is a genius. It's not up for debate.

Anyway, once he saw his toys he was so excited!

"Mommy, you found my shark floatie!"

Yes, it was lost all winter and mommy found it just in time ;)

Then no sooner did he crack open a bottle of neon sidewalk chalk paint, when all of the neighborhood children came out to celebrate the start of summer.  So happy!
